The Course Description:
Being a public safety dispatcher is one of the most stressful occupations in law enforcement- especially in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, very little training, if any, is ever afforded to this important position.
We will discuss the following:
§ 911 Dispatchers / Call Takers will learn the latest strategies for controlling the conversation with callers who are reporting a potential suicide by another, or their own suicide threat.
§ The Public Safety Dispatcher will gather information from a sequential list of questions, as the Dispatcher now becomes an integral team member for this call.
§ You will have the opportunity to improve your job performance by learning why and how people commit suicide.
§ Create an awareness of the risk factors as well as signs and symptoms in effective suicide prevention.
§ Learn how intervention can prevent many suicidal behaviors, if detected and acted upon early enough.
§ Learn how to best respond to suicide survivors (all those left behind)
