Hon. Elspeth B. Cypher (ret.) served as an Associate Justice on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court from 2017 until January 2024. She served on the Massachusetts Appeals Court from 2000 to 2017. She received a B.A. from Emerson College in 1980 and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1986, where she served on the Suffolk University Law Review. She worked in a small general practice and as prosecutor. She has extensive teaching experience, most recently as the Huber Distinguished Visiting Professor at Boston College Law School. She is a frequent panelist for the National Cybercrime Conference. She is the current author of the Massachusetts Practice Series, Criminal Practice and Procedure, Volumes 30, 30A, and 30B.

This course provides an overview of the unique legal issues for the police officer when investigating crime in a cyber world. We will examine the application of Massachusetts and federal law as applied to the seizure and search of electronic devices, including search warrants and exceptions to the warrant requirement.
Learn how to prepare an affidavit in support of a search warrant for digital evidence.
